A type is a non-verbal thing or object or person which points to some spiritual reality as when we say that Joseph is a type of Christ or that manna was a type of the Lord’s Supper.  See Terry and Berkhof chp VII(d).  A type then becomes a kind of picture prophecy and the antitype is the thing to which it points.
