2 Corinthians 1:1
2 Corinthians 1:2
2 Corinthians 1:3
2 Corinthians 1:4
2 Corinthians 1:5
2 Corinthians 1:6
2 Corinthians 1:7
2 Corinthians 1:8
2 Corinthians 1:9
2 Corinthians 1:10
2 Corinthians 1:11
2 Corinthians 1:12
2 Corinthians 1:13
2 Corinthians 1:14
2 Corinthians 1:15
2 Corinthians 1:16
2 Corinthians 1:17
Τοῦτο οὖν βουλόμενος, μήτι ἄρα τῇ ἐλαφρίᾳ ἐχρησάμην; ἢ ἃ βουλεύομαι, κατὰ σάρκα βουλεύομαι, ἵνα ᾖ παρ’ ἐμοὶ τό Ναί, ναὶ, καὶ τὸ Οὔ, οὔ;
Therefore, this resolving, did I not then treat with levity? or what I consulted, according to flesh did I consult? in order that it might be with me no, no, and yes, yes?
Paraphrase: Now when I made these plans, do you think that I did so without any real thought or deliberation as to the best course of action? Do you think I make plans based on what would be the most comfortable for my own flesh? Do not think this; God knows it is not true. I am not one of those silly people that say yes!, yes!, I’ll come! and then just as quickly change their plans and say Sorry, I won’t be able to make it.

2 Corinthians 1:18
But God is faithful because our word to you is not yes and no.
Paraphrase: On the contrary, the God, who called me to preach His word, is faithful; and therefore, His word is completely reliable. When we preach His word to you, it is not yes one day and then no the next. Never!

2 Corinthians 1:19
For the Son of God, Christ Jesus, the One being preached among you through us, through me, and Silas, and Timothy, was not yes and no but has been yes in Him.
Paraphrase: So it is with us as well. The Jesus that we preach, who is the very Son of God, is not yes and no, and neither are we. He is the same yesterday, today, and forever (Hebrews 13:8), and we who proclaim Him are also reliable people. We speak the truth in plain words without a hidden agenda (2 Corinthians 1:13), and you can rely on us. (2 Corinthians 1:12)
Comments:
Paley (p66) makes an interesting, historical observation on this verse in light of what we read in Acts 18:5.
2 Corinthians 1:20
For as many as are the promises of God, in Him, Yes! Wherefore, even through Him Amen to God for glory through us.
Paraphrase: What a glorious reality this is for us! God gives us such wonderful promises, but how will they be realized? The people of Israel also resolved to be faithful to God (Joshua 24:18, 21), but the Bible is full of their constant and repeated failures. What makes us think we will fare any better? Well, beloved, God’s promises do not depend on our reliability but on the reliability of Christ Himself. He is the faithful One, and He represents us before God. All the terms of God’s covenant, He has fully performed. (Romans 5:15, 19) This means that left to our own resources, the promises are No. We cannot perform the condition on which the things promised are suspended; and therefore, we can never receive the promised blessing. But when Christ steps up to perform these conditions, the promises become Yes! to us. Why? because we are in a saving union with Him. His success is our success. Now, we rest in confidence knowing that we have a certain hope of entering into God’s glory one day not because we were so faithful but because of what Christ has done in our place. Because of His work, we shout Amen! to every promise which God makes to us. We do this because we are so confident that we will receive the promised blessing.
