Colossians 3:1

Since you have been raised with Christ,

First class condition which generally assumes the truth of the protasis.

Colossians 3:2

Colossians 3:3

Colossians 3:4

Colossians 3:5

Colossians 3:6

Colossians 3:7

Colossians 3:8

Colossians 3:9

Colossians 3:10

Colossians 3:11

Colossians 3:12

Therefore, clothe yourselves, as the elect of God, holy and being loved, inward parts of compassion, goodness, humility, meekness, patience,

Paraphrase Now let’s consider the flip side.  I have called you to put to death your old sinful nature which marked your previous life in sin; now it’s time to focus on that new nature which God has created within you. (Colossians 3:10)  You can think of this like putting on your new clean clothes after stripping off the old, rotting clothes which used to cover you.  Now first of all, it is important to remember your position.  In a word, you have been raised with Christ. (Colossians 3:1)  This is so critical to always keep in your mind.  You have died with Christ and left your old sin nature behind.  Then you rose with Him a new creation holy and loved by God.  Don’t forget your baptism where this reality was visibly portrayed to you. (Romans 6:4; Colossians 2:12)  By this resurrection, we know that you are chosen by God just as Jesus was chosen by God. (Matthew 12:18; Luke 9:35)  You are His elect and beloved children; and now, it behooves you to live like one of those children.  This means that your life should be marked by a Christian character showing a heart of compassion for those in need, a desire to do good in the world, a humility of mind showing that you do not think more highly of yourself than you ought. (Romans 12:3)  You should have a firm grip on your feelings and be slow to anger and quick to forgive. (Proverbs 16:32; 19:11)  You should be patient with others and not expect them to understand all these things immediately.

Comments:

Ἐνδύσασθε is either middle or passive voice.  I took it as a middle and translated it reflexively.

Colossians 3:13

Bearing with one another and forgiving one another when someone might have a complaint against someone, even as even the Lord has forgiven you, in this manner also you.

Paraphrase:  Be tolerant of each other, and do all that’s in your power to live in peace.  Don’t immediately take offense at every perceived slight.  On the other hand, be careful when you speak; do all you can not to give offense by what you say.  Be quick to receive a good report about someone else; and on the other hand, be slow to believe a negative report about someone else.  Don’t give your ear to talebearers, flatterers, gossips, and slanderers.  Defend the good name of others just like you would your own.  If someone does wrong you in any way, be quick to forgive and to move on. (1 Peter 4:8)  Don’t forget what our Lord taught us in the parable of the unforgiving debtor. (Matthew 18:35)

Colossians 3:14

and to all these, love which is the belt of perfection.

Paraphrase:  In a word, cultivate the virtue of love which really brings one to obey all God’s commands. (Galatians 5:14)  Love is the perfect belt which holds all our clothes in place.

Colossians 3:23
