Ephesians 5:1
Ephesians 5:2
Ephesians 5:3
Ephesians 5:4
Ephesians 5:5
Ephesians 5:6
Ephesians 5:7
Ephesians 5:8
Ephesians 5:9
Ephesians 5:10
Ephesians 5:11
Ephesians 5:12
Ephesians 5:13
Ephesians 5:14
Ephesians 5:15
Look therefore, closely how you walk not as fools but as wise.
Paraphrase: Now brothers and sisters, in light of what God has done in our life, it behooves us to give careful attention to our way of life. We should examine our lives closely to ensure that we are making choices that are wise and God-honoring. In the past, we made choices which one would expect from a fool, but everything has changed now.

Ephesians 5:16
redeeming the time because the says are evil.
Paraphrase: When we make wise choices, we make the best use of our time. This is what we really should aim to be doing. We should recognize that the culture around us is evil and bent on destroying the kingdom of God. In light of this, we should seize every opportunity to advance the kingdom of God.

Ephesians 5:17
On account of this, do not be unthinking but understand what the will of the Lord [is].
Paraphrase: Now if this is your goal, then let’s stop lazing around. Get up, open your Bible, and study it until you understand how God wants you to live and what He wants you to believe.

Note the difference between God’s secret and revealed will; see Q54.
Ephesians 5:18
And do not be drunk with wine in which is wastefulness but be filled with the Spirit.
Paraphrase: Stop trying to cope with the pain and hardship of life by tipping the bottle. No good can come from that. It’s just a waste of time and a drag on your physical and mental strength. On the contrary, if you’re going to let something control you, don’t let it be wine, but let it be the Holy Spirit of God. Let Him fill you, control you, and direct your life.

Ephesians 5:19
speaking to one another in Psalms, and hymns and spiritual songs singing and making music in your heart to the Lord.
Paraphrase: So many blessings come to us when the Spirit comes down on us and fills us with His blessed presence. At our gatherings, we speak to God in prayer and song. Some times, the whole congregation sings; at other times, one part of the congregation sings to the other. We sing the words of the 150 Psalms or the great hymns which gifted people have written and prepared for us to use in our worship. Some times, there is no preparation or organization at all; the Spirit just comes down on us, and we burst forth in spontaneous song.

Ephesians 5:20
giving thanks always for all in the Name of the Lord, our Jesus Christ to God even the Father.
Paraphrase: And remember to be thankful. This is so critical if we are going to live God-honoring lives. Give thanks for everything that comes your way. See God’s hand in everything that happens to you, and know that He causes all these things to work together for your good. (Romans 8:28) That’s why we call Him our Father. (Matthew 6:9) This is how Christian’s should see their life. They should know that they’ve committed their life into His hands; they are His disciples; they bear His Name, and they hope one day to participate in His ultimate victory.

Ephesians 5:21
submitting to one another in the fear of Christ.
Paraphrase: If we are disciples of Christ and we own Him to be our Lord and Master, then it is easy to submit to one another. We all stand on the same ground before our Savior. There is no place in our assemblies for greedy ambition and power struggles. (Matthew 20:25-28; James 3:13-18)

Ephesians 5:22
Ephesians 5:23
Ephesians 5:24
Ephesians 5:25
Ephesians 5:26
Ephesians 5:27
Ephesians 5:28
Ephesians 5:29
Ephesians 5:30
Ephesians 5:31
Ephesians 5:32
Ephesians 5:33
