Calling. The power of God’s grace is communicated particularly in the word calling (kaleō). In the Pauline literature the word should not be defined as an “invitation” that can be accepted or refused. Calling is performative, in which the call accomplishes what is demanded. Schreiner, Paul, 240–241.
