Things to Learn:
1. How can you know your sin and misery?
Only from God’s law, which he reveals in his word. (Romans 3:20)
2. What does this law require of you?
Christ teaches this in a summary: “And He said to him, “YOU SHALL LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD
- WITH ALL YOUR HEART, AND
- WITH ALL YOUR SOUL, AND
- WITH ALL YOUR MIND.
This is the great and foremost commandment. The second is like it, ‘YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF. (Matthew 22:37-39)
3 Can you keep this law perfectly?
Indeed not, for I am inclined by nature to hate God and my neighbor, and
to transgress against God’s law in thought, word and deed. (Eph. 2:3)
