nifal triangle

The nifal triangle is the sign of a YQTL verb in the nifal.  The triangle is made by

  1. travelling up from the hiriq under the prefix;
  2. to the dagesh in the first letter;
  3. down to the qamats under the first letter;
  4. and over to the hiriq again.

In the event that the first letter is a guttural (see first gutturals) which does not accept the dagesh, the vowel under that letter will lengthen as in יֵעָבֵד.
